round about boatThere are more than 38 million Americans that fish and hunt. One subcategory of these outdoor sports that is increasing in popularity is bowfishing. If you’re planning a first time bowfishing trip, it’s important that you know what you’re doing, where you’re fishing, and that you have all the necessary equipment.

Here are some essential bowfishing items you’ll need to ensure a successful first trip.

  1. High Quality Bow — You’re going to need a bow that is light enough for you to carry and hold for an extended period of time. A common mistake first time fishermen make is they chose a bow that is much too heavy for them to hold. You might be able to lift a large bow and take a single shot or two, but you’re going to want one that you can hold for a while.
  2. Round About Boat — You don’t need an extremely large boat to become a great bowfishermen, either. One man fishing boats should do the trick just fine. You just need a Round About boat that can easily access shallow waters and one that will remain steady enough as you’re preparing for each shot. There are quality one man boats for sale that you can buy that will improve your chance of success out on the water.
  3. Gut Bucket — There is no doubt that this is a messy sport, but it can get a whole lot messier if you don’t bring a large enough gut bucket along with you. After you’ve (hopefully) made your first catch, there could be a lot of blood and guts that could spill out on your boat if you’re not prepared. Bring a large enough gut bucket for the entire trip and consider packing a second or third one just in case.
  4. Polarized Shades — A quality pair of shades are extremely important for any type of outdoor sport, especially for bowfishing. You’re going to be on the water early in the morning just as the sun is coming up, don’t let the brightness of the sun prevent you from having a successful first time trip.
